Hands down, the Caribbean has some of the most amazing beaches in the world. It is no coincidence that each is close to a coral reef, the main source of the dazzling white sand that sprinkles ashore as a sugar-soft treat for your toes. And the warm sea that bathes these shorelines is so clear that the blazing Caribbean sun hits the ocean floor nearly full strength, bouncing back to color the undersides of passing clouds with the same luminous turquoises, blues and greens that the water displays. We’ve compiled a list of our top 5 all-time favorite Caribbean beaches below.
Shoal Bay, Anguilla
Boasting white sands and turquoise waters, Anguilla has 33 near-perfect beaches, including this one on Shoal Bay. This little limestone bump in the sea has, thus far, maintained its charming menagerie of clapboard shacks. Visitors will discover a melting pot of cultures in a tropical paradise of white sand beaches and warm clear Caribbean seas.
Anguilla is a blank canvas, allowing visitors to design any vacation they please. Those seeking opulence and privacy can rent one of the many rambling villas, while those looking to dive headfirst into the gritty island culture will be sated with cold beer, reggae beats and nightly gatherings around smoky BBQs. And what’s more satisfying than discovering a hidden local haunt which serves fresh lobster and big smiles for half the price of those big-name joints down the street?
Trunk Bay, St. John
With 60% of its land area comprising a pristine national park, St. John is as far away as you can get from civilization, but just a short distance from upscale jewelry stores and boutiques. A visit to St. John is a must for those seeking true escape.
Spend a day trying to decide which of the island’s half-dozen north coast dazzling beaches is your favorite. You may favor Hawksnest, and less-crowded Gibney Beach, sometimes called Little Hawksnest, or perhaps Trunk Bay and the more secluded Francis Beach, which is tucked away in the far corner of Maho Bay. No matter your choice St John’s is sure to satisfy.
Crane Beach, Barbados
Once you gaze out over the sparkling waters of Crane Beach at the never-ending vista of blues, it becomes obvious why Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous declared Crane Beach “One of the 10 Best Beaches in the World”.
For centuries, Crane Beach has been sought by both locals and visitors for its natural beauty and serenity. Pink, powder soft sand graces your feet, a lush coconut grove sways in the tropical breeze and a golden Caribbean sun help to make this the ultimate paradise.
Barbados is one of those locations that really does scream luxury. It’s a top choice for honeymoons, and it’s known for its fabulous welcoming culture and beautiful sights. It’s one of a small number of coral islands in the West Indies which makes it perfect for underwater adventures including scuba diving. It’s also known for its huge waves which attract surfers and body surfers alike.
Eagle Beach, Aruba
Eagle Beach in Aruba is one of the most breathtaking beaches on the island, and that is saying a lot. Eagle Beach boasts the widest beach in Aruba and is famous for its pristine and soft white sands. Eagle Beach offers a clear, sparkling Caribbean, ample parking, shaded picnic areas, some huts, and a variety of motorized water sports.
The beaches of Aruba are widely considered being among the cleanest, widest, and most spectacular in the Caribbean region. An Aruba beach typically consists of powder-fine, white-sand, perfect for soaking up the Caribbean sun. All you need is plenty of suntan lotion and a refreshing cocktail, both of which are not hard to come by on Aruba!
Horseshoe Bay, Bermuda
Having traveled extensively and been to many beaches all over the world, it is a big statement to say that Horseshoe Bay Beach in Southampton, Bermuda clearly stands out from the rest. It’s really unique! Set against the backdrop of blue waters of the Atlantic, this beautiful pink sandy beach forms shape of a horseshoe.
The main beach is about a quarter of a mile, but stretches to the east for about four miles. The sand here is pale pink in color and water clear blue. There are limestone rocks that surround the beach along its boundary line. Horseshoe Bay can provide great snorkeling experience if you are willing to go a little offshore towards the rocks.
Horseshoe Bay beach also offers a lovely walking trail to the South Shore Beaches in the event that the beaches become more inhabited than you prefer. Take the trail through the park that leads to beautiful secluded coves. Some of our favorite coves include Port Royal Cove to the west, Peel Rock cove and Wafer Rocks beach to the east.
